Fido was there when I was born,
But mom said that he was going away,
He's always been a part of my life,
So I commanded him to, "Stay!"

But he could not obey this command,
But in his old eyes, I can see he tried,
So I sit here on my old oak friend,
As a part of me died.

I could feel his branches tremble,
I could feel his body sway.
He knew he would outlive me,
And I knew he commanded me to ,"Stay!"
